Docked early morning at Bridgetown Barbados, after sailing 363 nautical miles from St Maarten. Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados, and a port city on the island’s southwest coast. It's known for its British colonial architecture, 17th-century Garrison and horse-racing track.
We have arranged a tour of the island today, which will be visiting some of the islands less visited sights.
First port of call is Codrington College
Christopher Codrington III (1668-1710), the benefactor after whom Codrington College is named, was the son of a very prominent Barbadian, Christopher Codrington II, who was at one time Governor General of the Leeward Islands. He was born either at Codrington Plantation in St. Michael, or Didmarton Plantation, now called Society, in St. John. He spent most of his boyhood at Consetts, the site of the present College.
When he died, he left his two Plantations in the Island of Barbados to the Society for propagation of the Christian Religion in Foreign parts. The once prominent, symbol of slavery on the island converted to a more noble use.
A very quiet and relaxing location to spend some time from the more energetic areas of Barbados.
