We have been traveling westardly for approximately 36 hrs from Barbados to the ABC island of Bonaire. The ABC islands are the three western-most islands of the Leeward Antilles in the Caribbean Sea that lie north of Falcón State, Venezuela. In order alphabetically they are Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. All three islands are part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Map of the Caribbean
Whilst here at Bonaire, i have arranged to sail on a Siamese Samur sailing boat to the beautiful island of Klein Bonaire.
Klein Bonaire is a small uninhabited islet off the west coast of the Caribbean island of Bonaire, and is part of the Dutch special municipality of Bonaire. The islet, which sits within the rough crescent formed by the main island, is 6 square kilometers and extremely flat, rising no more than two meters above the sea. Klein Bonaire is included in the protection of the Bonaire National Marine Park and is home to turtle nesting grounds and occasional flamingos. This islet has been designated as a world heritage sight since 1980. If you visit, you will understand why.
The primary attraction for visitors is scuba diving and snorkeling the pristine coral reef surrounding the islet is very close to the beach. Sailing to the islet just added another level to the experience of the visit. Highly recommended.
See the rest of this experience in next post, not to be missed.
