Gibraltar 2015

Updated: Sep 25, 2020

Our first stop since leaving Southampton, after two sea days on board ship, will be Gibraltar. Gibraltar is an iconic British overseas territory, occupying a narrow peninsula of Spain’s southern Mediterranean coast, just northeast of the Strait of Gibraltar.

Located on the east side of the Bay of Gibraltar, and south of the Spanish city of La Línea.

Gibraltar is 3 miles long and 0.75 mile wide and is connected to Spain by a low, sandy isthmus that is 1 mile long.

We only have a few hours here, so i have elected to visit the observation platform on the rock in an attempt, to see Africa while standing in Europe.

Not to bad getting up to the viewing platform, found a cable car. The cable car can be found alongside the Alameda Gardens, at the end of Main Street. The six minute ride is worth the cost for many reasons, but £10 is nothing to pay for the views as you travel in both directions. You will run in to some of Gibraltars famous residents, which are fine as long as you remember they are not TAME. A great place for coffee and cake is the Rock Cafe if you can find a seat.

The time to return to the ship soon arrives, but this little jaunt was not rushed, so i had a good day out. Now looking forward to dinner and cocktails tonight.
