As i was in the area i thought i would pop in and check the old bank balance.
Today we are visiting Grand Cayman. Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman Islands and the location of the capital, George Town. The other islands being Little Cayman and Cayman Brac. Grand Cayman is approximately 22 miles long with its widest point being only 8 miles wide and reaching a dizzying 60ft above sea level at its highest point. Not a very big island at all.
With a zero percent income tax rate its not suprising to find 43 of the 50 largest banks in the world incorporated in the Cayman Islands, the islands have become synonymous with money and finance.
We are going to try and visit three of the islands main attractions, the Blue Iguanas at the Queen Elisabeth Botanical Gardens, Pedro, St James and Hell
Firstly though i am going to take a walk through Georgetown, which will propably be part of my video diary for the islands.
First call is the Queen Elisabeth Heritage Gardens. The Botanic Park is located in the district of North Side on Frank Sound Road. A quite oasis of calm on this bustling island.
Do not miss the lake area which forms a natural habitat for the Cayman Blue Iguana and breeding ground for a variety of rare aquatic birds and animals native to the Caribbean.
Whilst at the gardens, do not miss the chance to visit the traditional colonial Cayman house set in its grounds.
This was a very pleasent place to visit, with a lot of varied thigs of interest to see. The walk through the gardens to the lakside is a bit of a trek in the sun, but it gives you the best chance to see the elusive blue iguana. Video will be posted in Video Diary.
