Kotor is a fortified town on Montenegro’s Adriatic coast, in a bay near the limestone cliffs of Mt. Lovćen. Characterized by winding streets and squares, its medieval old town has several Romanesque churches, including Kotor Cathedral. This is where i find myself today.
The first impression as you approach from the Adriatic is how similar the landscape is to Norway's Fjords. This is due to the fact that it is actually a submerged river canyon.
As you approach you have the chance to marvel at the Church of our lady of the rocks, which is devoted to seafarers.
The old port of Kotor is surrounded by fortifications built during the Venetian period. It has an impressive old town fortification wall.
The old town has all the character and ambiance you could ever want. Its many courtyard squares provide ample opportunities to feed your minds as well as your stomachs. Montenegro proved to be the most reasonably priced place to eat and everybody seamed to speak very good English. I wonder how many visitors to our country could say the same.
The Blue Cave on the Lustica Peninsula is one of the must-see attractions while you’re on the this part of the Adriatic coast.
It’s called the Blue Cave because the way the light hits the sandy bottom and reflects up through the water makes the whole cave look blue.
It’s very beautiful and it’s a lucky quirk because almost all of the coast here is rocky, not sandy. You can see the blue light shining out of the cave when you approach, but to really see it you’ve got to go inside.
To visit the cave you-really have to hire a rib to enter and appreciate this phenomenon.
You can if you wish, swim within the cave, but have to avoid other users.
A very pleasant visit to Montenegro, and i would visit again.
