If there's one thing you feel you have to do when in Venice, then it must be taking a ride in a gondola. So as many other visitors do, i float along the small side alleys of Venice being propelled by our very own singing Gondolier.
A benefit of being on a gondola is that you get a great view of the Bridge of Sighs and the Rialto bridge. Now for a bit of history.
The Rialto Bridge is the oldest of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice. Connecting the sestieri of San Marco and San Polo, it has been rebuilt several times since its first construction in the 12th century.
The Bridge of Sighs is a enclosed bridge which is made of white limestone, has windows with stone bars and passes over the Rio di Palazzo, and connects the New Prison to the interrogation rooms in the Doge's Palace.
I hate to admit it, but I quite enjoyed my cliched trip around Venice in the gondola.
